What your pharmacy can do for you
What your local pharmacy can do for you
A new website has been launched to help patients understand the range of NHS services now available from community pharmacies in England.
Many people are unaware that pharmacies can offer more than just dispensing medicines. Through this website, you can find clear, reliable information about several NHS clinical services that may be available without needing a GP appointment.
The website, www.communitypharmacy.org.uk, provides information on the following NHS services:
- Pharmacy First Service – advice and treatment for a range of common conditions
- Blood Pressure Check Service – free blood pressure checks for eligible adults
- Pharmacy Contraception Service – access to contraception services, including ongoing supply of the oral contraceptive pill
Each service has its own dedicated page, explaining what the service is, who it’s for, and how to access it. The website also links directly to the NHS website so you can find a pharmacy near you that offers the service.
The website also explains that patients have the right to choose which pharmacy they use for NHS services and to collect their prescriptions – helping you access care in a way that’s convenient for you.
