The Bowel Screening programme is now 20 years old.
Posted on:
The bowel screening programme was launched in 2006. The kit is sent to people to detect small traces of blood in stool samples. Originially this was a 3 part test but in 2019 they changed the test type to being one simple sample rather than three. This is called a FIT (faecal immunochemical test).
This year the sensitivity of the test is even better as they have reduced the threshold of detection which will mean an estimated 600 more bowel cancer cases are expected to be identified each year in England.
If you receive a kit once eligible please do complete this simple test and return it.
